Eugenio de Andrade
Mood:  blue
Eugenio de Andrade died yesterday.
He was my favorite portuguese poet. His death didnt really bother me because I didnt know he was still alive. Here is one of my favorite poems of his:

Poema A M?e

"No mais fundo de ti,
eu sei que tra?, m?e.

Tudo porque j? n?o sou
o menino adormecido
no fundo dos teus olhos.

Tudo porque tu ignoras
que h? leite onde o frio n?o se demora
e noites rumorosas de ?guas matinais.

Por iso, ?s vezes, as palavras que te digo
que apertava junto ao cora??o
no retrato da moldura.

Se soubesses como ainda amo as rosas,
talvez n?o enchesses as horas de pesadelos.

Mas tu esqueceste muita coisa;
esqueceste que as minhas pernas cresceram,
que todo o meu corpo cresceu,
e at? o meu cora??o
ficou enorme, m?e!

Olha - queres ouvir-me? -
?s vezes ainda sou o menino
que adormeceu nos teus olhos;

ainda aperto contra o cora??o
rosas t?o brancas
como as que tens na moldura;

ainda oi?o a tua voz:
Era uma vez uma princesa
no meio de um laranjal...

Mas - tu sabes - a noite ? enorme,
e todo o meu corpo cresceu.
Eu sa? da moldura,
dei ?s aves os meus olhos a beber.

N?o me esqueci de nada, m?e.
Guardo a tua voz dentro de mim.
e deixo-te as rosas.

Boa noite. Eu vou com as aves."

Rest in peace, my friend.

Noise 2

I just remembered a song called "Beautiful Noise" by Neil Diamond that we sang in grade 4, Mrs. Mason's class. Here are the lyrics:

What a beautiful noise
Comin' up from the street
Got a beautiful sound
It's got a beautiful beat

It's a beautiful noise
Goin' on everywhere
Like the clickety-clack
Of a train on a track
It's got a rhythm to spare

Chorus:It's a beautiful noise
And it's a sound that I love
And it fits me as well
As a hand in a glove
Yes it does, yes it does

What a beautiful noise
Comin' up from the park
It's the song of this kids
And it plays until dark

It's the song of the cars
On their furious flights
But there's even romance
In the way that they dance
To the beat of the lights
Chorus
It's a beautiful noise
Made of joy and of strife
Like a symphony played
By the passing parade
It's the music of life

What a beautiful noise
Comin' into my room
And it's beggin' for me
Just to give it a tune

Wasn't Neil Diamond an optimistic, the-glass-is-half-full bastard? The sound of cars honking is annoying!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful noise my ass!

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth you'd probably be able to get a lot of free games.

What's with all the noise???

Today there was an article in the newspaper that building codes are not being met with regards to noise pollution. It made me reflect on how noise affects my life: The number of times I have woken up in the middle of the night just because a car drove by, the fact that I can hear my neighbour chatting on messenger because I hear that annoying beep. My constant worry if my radio is playing to loud, cant play my mandolin in my appartment cause the neighbours can hear, not to mention singing in the shower... Which, by the way, if I can hear my neighbour singing, he can sure as hell hear me! Its a violation of privacy if you think about it, because I'm not comfortable in my own home. How crappy is that? So I agree, residents should complain to contractors for not obeying the laws of noise pollution. Wonder what I can do about it...

Oh, this after a weekend of camping where the silence was deafening, but pleasant.

When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.

Hey people!

Just updating...
Lets see: Well, I guess Life moves on whether you want it to or not. I've been really really busy. Watched star wars 3 weeks ago, and of course I thougt it was really good! I was expecting to be disappointed because I was expecting a lot, which meand I usually end up disappointed. But I wasnt, so that was good.

2 weeks ago I slept like 15h during the whole week. Going to bed at 4-5 in the morning and waking up around 9am. This because I had to finish that study that I'm always talking about that we had to do, and we had to present it at a conference which was on Thursday and Friday. But it was really fun because on the last night of the conference their was a gala dinner, so all the people in my year had to dress up and look all polished, etc. We were at the hotel til 4am. Then we went clubbing, but I didnt stay there til too long cause we were all (my group and I) dead tired. But the next day, Saturday, was amazing, went to play paintball in the middle of the forest. Our team was called "UsNus" kinda like a slang version for "the naked ones" All because it was really hot that day and we all felt like jumping in the river, but my friend said "since we dont have bathing suits, lets go naked!", and that how we got our name. Paintball was weird though because some people were really taking it seriously, checking the high ground and low ground, planning strategies, etc. But we ended up winning so that was fun.

Last week I went to watch the interpreter which I didnt really enjoy.. I've been working on my tan, hehe, although I should be studying.. But it is such good beach weather!!!!!

To conclude, Go Pistons! Game 7 tonight!

Foolish Games
Mood:  flirty
You took your coat off, and stood in the rain,
You were always crazy like that.
And I watched from my window, always felt like I was outside,
looking in on you.
You were always the mysterious one with dark eyes and careless hair,
you were fashionably sensitive but too cool to care.
You stood in my doorway with nothing to say,
beside some comment on the weather.
In case you failed to notice,
in case you failed to see,
this is my heart bleeding before you,
this is me down on my knees.

You were always brilliant in the morning,
smoking your cigarette and talking over coffee.
Your philosophy on art, baroque moved you, you loved Mozart,
and you'd speak of your loved ones as I softly strummed my guitare.
You'd teach me of honest things, things that were daring, things that were clean,
things that knew what an honest dollar did mean.
I hid my soiled hands behind my back,
somewhere along the line, I must have gone off track with you.
Well excuse me, think I've mistaken you for somebody else.
Somebody who gave a damn, somebody more like myself.

And these foolish games are tearing me apart
Your thoughtless words are breaking my heart
Your breaking my heart

"Do not go gentle into that good night...
rage, rage against the dying of the light" - Dylan Thomas
Those of you who know me know that this defines me. I love, LOVE, contradicting and I have a real problem with authority. If you tell me to do something, I will do the opposite. This irritates the hell out of my parents... I feel sorry for them for having to put up with me. I dont think that this is what Dylan Thomas meant when he wrote the poem, maybe he wanted me to stand up for my rights or defend the weak, but I havent found a cause that I'm pationate about yet so I guess I'll just sit around and continue to piss my parents off until I get my calling.
But speaking of rage, for a while now I have known that I have a lot of pent up anger inside. I dont know why, maybe from years and years of taking shit and never saying anything. I guess the whole reason why I started this blog is because I have a lot to say even though I cant get it all out at once. I write a public blog instead of a private diary because for me, this is a way for friends to get to know a different side of me. Its hard to open up, especially if you dont know if the person is willing to listen. So I just write it down here and whoever wants to can read it. It helps, it really does.

The rest of the night was the usual, although I went home early because I was really tired. Kinda getting old for this... YEAH RIGHT!!! Keima update: Tuesday
Mood:  a-ok
Heeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllooooooooooooooooo!
So it's Friday and I havent written a post since monday, and I cant believe its already Friday! The days go by so fast, especially when you spend them sleeping... lol
So, lets start with Tuesday. It was the parade that day, so we (me and my friends) walked around the streets of Porto cheering for our school and having cheer-offs with other schools to see who can scream the loudest (or in my case, lose their voices the fastest) So that took up all afternoon. Then we went to dinner, ate "Francesinhas". Its basically a sandwich with beef, ham, and sausages that is toasted in a wood oven, then covered with a poached egg, cheese, and drenched in sauce. Also comes with fries and is best consumed with a beer. Porto specialty, and very good, although very fattening. So after dinner we went back to the park, listened to the concert (it was folk music night, very corny, but everyone dances) and hung around with friends until dawn.

And Queima 2005 continues...
Mood:  party time!
Wow, I'm so tired...
Yesterday was really good as well. My friends came over to my house for a pot luck dinner and then we all went to the park together. Watched another concert "Fingertips", they have this song that I really like called "Melancholic Ballad For The Left Lovers", another portuguese band, if anyone feels like downloading it... The rest, well, the same as the night before. Today I'm staying in to rest because tomorrow is the parade all afternoon and then to the park again at night... Don't really feel like writing anymore today.

Queima 2005 has official begun!!!!
Mood:  party time!
Well well well!
I'm awake with no hangover! Last night was great, met a lot of new people, reconnected with some old friends, and got to know some acquaintaces better. The best way to forget someone is to party! Even though the guy was there but I kinda ignored him, it would ruin my mood.
I went to:
1)Jantar da serenata
2)Tracei a capa ao meu afilhado e pseudo-afilhado
3)Rushed home to change, cuz I was in uniform
4)Caught the bus with friends to the park where the party is
5)Saw the concert
6)Went to: barraka de brangaca, ICBAS, FMUP, Engenharia Civil, Portucalense,Farmacia and others which I dont remember... but I did that for the rest of the night just walking around, meeting or meeting up with people... Then at dawn we all left, caught the bus home, and went to bed. Good night, eh?
Saw a great concert, Pedro Abrunhosa, portguese guy, but really good. Today is mother's day in portugal so I came home to have lunch with my mommy and gave her a bunch of roses. ?17 on 4 roses! I swear they really take advantage of mother's day here. Well, I have to go, my friends are coming over for dinner so I have to start cleaning and cooking.
I'll keep posting for a mini resume of the nights I go to.

Update on me
Mood:  cool
Hello!

Wow, what a week. Well, where to start? Lets go with the bad news... I found out that a friend of mine, that i realized I was falling for recently, likes some other chick and I've been kinda down about that. For those of you who know about me and my short term crushes... this was not a simple infatuation! :( Anyways, the good news is, that the week long party in May that I'm always talking about begins tomorrow!!!! Woo hoo!!!! Happy happy happy! Cant wait!
So what have I been doing? I went to the opera on Tuesday... I know, the opera. Watched Turandot by Puccini, with the famous song "Nessun Dorma". I like opera but these singers from the Ucraine sucked!
On Wednesday, I went to baptize the freshman from my university. I am a godmother! Again! I dont know why these people pick me, but they sure as hell are not getting a good role model out of me... hehe.
Thursday, was in the ICU at the hospital til 4am finishing the abstract of an study we did... I only slept 2 hours cuz I had classes at 8:30... Which means that I'm dead tired and I dont know what I'm still doing up. I'm going to bed...
* Nighty night *
